675' Rock Bore in South Zanesville, OH
Using a Vermeer 36x50, Astec Air Hammer, 350 PSI Air Compressor and the design assistance provided by Atlas Bore Planner, ClearPath completes a 675' Solid Rock Bore in South Zanesville, OH. The bore crossed State Route 22 and 8" steel was placed.
Soil conditions encountered ranged from solid sandstone to fractured sandstone with pockets of sand. The entrance side of the bore had a +32' elevation change from State Route 22 and the exit side had a +52' elevation change. The soil conditions along with the deep belly proved to provide a challenge in keeping the pilot bore clean and to allow air flow for the air hammer.
Upon completion of the pilot bore upsizing to 12 inches commenced. This process took approximately 12 hours with an overnight crew operating until around midnight the night before pulling the product. The actual pipe pullback was completed in less than 60 minutes.
